About Us
Our History
Established in 1948 by Bennett and Millie Horne, Horne Food Supply, initially named Horne Candy Co., embodies a rich history steeped in tradition and family values. Bennett Horne, a former staff sergeant in World War II, demonstrated remarkable bravery during pivotal battles such as Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. Returning from war, Bennett utilized the business acumen he acquired while studying at Mercer University before the war to begin work on Horne Candy Co. Regarded as a man of few words but unwavering integrity, Bennett led his family by example, instilling in them a robust work ethic and Christian principles.

About Millie Horne
Millie Horne, an equally essential figure in the company’s journey, exemplified selflessness and generosity. Putting God, family, and others before herself, Millie was described as a beacon of warmth and kindness. Her genuine interest in others and aversion to gossip made her a beloved figure in the community, as she made it her mission to ensure every customer felt valued and appreciated.

Horne Candy Co.
In its infancy, Horne Candy Co. operated from a modest panel truck, with Bennett making deliveries to towns as far-reaching as Cairo, Coolidge, Boston, and Meigs. Despite opportunities for expansion, Bennett and Millie remained steadfast in their commitment to preserving Horne as a local, family-run establishment. At this point, big box stores like Walmart and Sam’s Club were nonexistent, and Horne was completely wholesale. Candy was ordered directly from large companies, and there was no minimum on what could be ordered. Thomasville loved Horne’s products– from cigarettes and tobacco (which were not known to be harmful at the time) to Gordon potato chips!

New Beginnings
The business landscape shifted over time, with the addition of Bennett’s brother, Ed Horne, to the team. Ed, known for his gracious demeanor and generous spirit, brought a wealth of experience from his own ventures, including a grocery store he co-owned with Frank Smith. Customers fondly remembered Ed from his days at the grocery store, further solidifying the familial connection Horne cultivated within the community.
As Horne Candy Co. flourished, it expanded its offerings to include both wholesale and cash-and-carry services. Despite these advancements, the core values of integrity, community, and dedication remained at the forefront. After pouring his heart and soul into Horne Candy Co., Bennett passed away at 76 years old in 1995, leaving Horne to his daughter, Ellen Hunsucker, who was later joined by her husband, Richard, that same year.
